Warm Greetings to everyone!
Welcome to our new look website. This is not a replacement of the SMSS Alumni and Friends Foundation
website but rather an accompaniment. Think of it as the second and third voices that we were trained to sing in St Mary's Church to improve the overall experience of singing.
Let me introduce the features of this website.
First, you will notice "All about SMSSAFF" on the main menu. When you hover your mouse over this, it will show you several click-able items that roughly corresponds to the menu items in http://smssaff.org
. Feel free to navigate yourself in those items as you have been before.
Second, there is a section in the center-top position that is running a slideshow of SMS-related pictures. Anyone can upload their own pictures (personal pix, SMS-related pix, reunion pix, etc) and these will be included in the slideshow, with the most 'liked' pictures being shown most-often. Do share and upload a lot of pictures. Please also feel free to comment as much as you want in as many of the pictures that you have a comment on. These are the kinds of things that makes our website interesting!
Third, below the pictures is a discussion forum. This is intended as a forum for discussing anything SMS-related. For example, as of now, there are topics regarding the current state of SMS from the Principals' perspective; there are topics on the 5th SMSSAFF Conference in Chicago; short news about Sagada from Sneaky and the news that SMS recently topped the overall NAT 2010 results. This is sort of like the discussions in the StMarySchool@yahoogroups.com mailing list but presented in a different format. Do feel free to create as many topics as you want and comment on as many discussions as you want. Again, a big number of topics and comments are the kinds of things that makes our website interesting!
Fourth, there is a section somewhere that shows videos about SMS. Personally, I find the videos "St Mary's School, The Movie" part 1
and part 2
most interesting (thanks to sinkeysk!). Just like the other sections, feel free to comment/upload as much as you can.
Fifth, there is a section for blogs just like this one. Anyone can create their own blog here. For example, it might be a good idea for the Principal's Bulletin Series to have their own section here? Perhaps an SMS student could have a blog here about "day-to-day student life" - anyone? Blogs could also be written on something project related - it could contain status of a certain project, what needs to be done, who needs to do it, list of donors, etc...
Sixth, there is a section called "groups". For example, there is a group for the "Board of Trustees". Only the Board of Trustees can access this section and this section could be used for discussions that are limited to the Board of Trustees. A similar group is created for the working committee for the 5th SMSSAFF Conference in Chicago to discuss things specific to the event. You can also create things like a "SMSSAFF - NY/NJ/CT Chapter" group which is specific to those from the NY/NJ/CT area. Just like the other sections, feel free to ... yes, you know what I mean by now :)
Since this website is newly launched, it would be a good start to invite all the SMS Students, Alumni and Friends that you know. You can do this via the "Invite" in the menu item above. This is sort of a membership-only website (i.e. only those registered can comment/upload) and this will only be interesting if most of the SMS students, alumni and friends are registered or at least, know about the website.
Another thing about this website being new, you may see some broken links or things that don't work. Please bring them to our attention and our crew of administrators will fix them for you.
Most importantly, I hope you find your time spent in this website enjoyable or productive.
P.S. We are a team of moderators composed of some students, alumni and friends of SMS. We rotate using this Moderator identity. We are also in the lookout for more volunteer moderators/administrators. Please contact us if interested.
